Religious Education
2020-2021
We are proud to offer excellent programs which partner with families to form children in the faith.
Because of the continuing concerns with Covid-19 and our commitment to provide the best options for families, we are offering our Religious Education program online.
Classes will meet via Zoom, with an engagement activity to follow. Classes will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday so that it is staggered for families with multiple children.

Project Exodus
Welcoming New Americans
Over the last four years, the Religious Education families have welcomed seven households of refugees and have helped them to begin their new lives as Americans. The families have been from diverse places - Iraq, Myanmar, Congo - and each family endured war and dislocation, as well as time in refugee camps.
On March 12, we were able to welcome an eighth family to begin their new lives in America. The family group is two brothers and one sister, Yvonne Uwineza, Girimbabazi Gasirimu, and Gadi Murenzi Gasasira. Yvonne has a three year old daughter, Pretty Agahozo. They are Congolese, refugees from the long civil war there. They fled when they were children and lived for twenty years in a refugee camp in Rwanda. Twenty-four hours after leaving the camp, they journeyed from Rwanda to Doha, Qatar and then on to Chicago.
The donations and 'moving in' efforts of our Religious Education families furnished their new home and gave them a sound beginning on the road to becoming Americans.

Fun and Engaging Things Happen
Each year, we have interesting classroom units, as well as special events. For example, we have had a visit from a Holocaust survivor, a celebration of the Feast of St. Francis, an All Saints mass together, and a visit from the good bishop, St. Nicholas. We welcomed the Kitenge family and set up their new home in America and we raised money for Fields of Life in East Africa. Then, we ended up the year with a May Crowning and closing treat.
